IPS (In-Plane Switching) was developed to improve the deficiencies in TN+Film technology. IPS provides the best color reproduction of all panel types, and can even compete with CRTs. The only drawback it has is poor contrast ratio due to the black-level not being as dark as other panels.
S-IPS (Super-IPS) is an improvement on IPS to provide faster pixel refresh rates, making it good for gamers who want the full 24bit color without compromising response time.
